Caring for your new lawn

Every new Laebon home comes with sod in the front yard. It is very important that you follow the tips below to keep your lawn and the community looking beautiful.

• Once the sod is laid, water it immediately!

• Water it twice a day (morning and late afternoon) for 20 minutes per watering for two weeks. By doing this your lawn gets a solid six inches of water. Remember to water the sod on both sides of the house as the eaves shelter this area from any rain.

• Avoid walking on it if possible. Walking on it can shift the sod, making it uneven or bunched.

• After the second week, you can reduce watering to every other day.

• As the sod begins to root, you can then start watering twice per week. Once the grass grows to roughly three inches high (around 3 weeks after it’s been laid), it’s time for a trim.

• As your sod matures and grows stronger roots, you can trim it lower with a mower, 3-4 inches high is about right. Fertilize the lawn (18-24-12 fertilizer) after you mow it to add fresh nutrients to the soil. This is a must!

• After your lawn has endured four mowing’s and looks healthy, you may want to apply the first weed control product as suggested from your local garden center.
